Family fun for the whole community will be the aim of Lakes Entrance Rocktober Festival being held this coming weekend in an exciting new location.
Rocktober is a weekend festival event organised by Lakes Entrance Rock and Roll and supported by other local rock and roll clubs in the area. Their aim is to bring an event to Lakes Entrance, encouraging visitors into the town to help boost the economy.
“This year’s event has been moved to Myer Street, which will be closed to traffic both days, allowing a festive atmosphere with shops decorating their windows,” secretary of LE Rock and Roll Rima Pescod said.
There will be rock’n’roll displays, live music, DJ Andrew Camp, raffles, retailers actively selling their wares who will be complimented by market/food stalls.
“The show and shine will also move from the Esplanade to Myer Street this year and will be held on the Sunday. It includes custom, rod and classic cars of years gone by.”
The plan is that from 10am to 4pm there will be dancing, music and market/food stalls plus traders will all be involved to create a great atmosphere each day.
There will also be the popular dance workshops held at the Mechanics Hall on Saturday morning from 10am.
“As with last year all proceeds will go to Melon’s Cottage, dances on Friday and Saturday night are sold out,” Rima said.
Along with Lakes Entrance Rock and Roll, Lakes Entrance Action and Development Association (LEADA) Events Committee and the Myer Street traders are also backing the event. They hope all retailers get into the mood and dress up their shop windows and/or their staff, and that the community come along and enjoy all the activities.
“It will be an amazing event, we are excited to be involved and showcasing all the wonderful businesses in Myer Street,” shop and restaurant owner in the street, Sharen Cameron, said.
