The Lakes Entrance Croquet Club’s annual doubles handicap tournament was again an outstanding success with players from all over Victoria competing in two sections.
The club welcomed 32 croquet competitors to the town from Terang, Wonthaggi, Morwell, Phillip Island, Sale, Drouin, Orbost, Traralgon and Bairnsdale.
It was a delight to watch the splendid skills of these croquet players over the weekend, many experiencing games where scores were taken to the 13th hoop.
Heather Bradbury and Dennis Saxton (Bairnsdale) were the winners of section one for third consecutive year, with the Traralgon based husband and wife combination of Shane and Sue Downie runners-up.
Winners in section two were Morwell’s Kevin Young and Drouin’s Lynda Quayle, with the Sale combination of Colin and Nelly Coomber runners-up.
All Lakes Entrance club members need to be congratulated on their assistance in many capacities including catering, tournament management, refereeing and court maintenance, preparation and set up for each day of the weekend.
The club is always welcoming of interested persons from the community who would come and experience the great game of golf croquet.
The Lakes Entrance Croquet Club is a vibrant community of members and its membership has been increased significantly during the year.
Come and try days are held on either Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday mornings from 9am each week or Friday afternoons at 3pm.
