Upgrades to facilities at Jemmys Point Lookout and Kalimna Viewing Platform are now complete, improving the experience for locals and visitors to Kalimna in East Gippsland.
Federal Labor Senator for Victoria, Raff Ciccone, officially opened Stage 2 works last week.
Jemmys Point, a lookout and viewing platform, has been upgraded to include new all-abilities toilet facilities, a shelter, barbecues, picnic tables, seating, landscaping, increased parking spaces and a turning circle.
The lookout is a popular attraction that offers a majestic view of the Gippsland Lakes and surrounds.
The Kalimna Viewing Platform works include the construction of all-ability toilet facilities, a shelter, barbecues, picnic tables, seating, landscaping, parking improvements and walking path and trail upgrades.
“The Australian Government is pleased to partner with East Gippsland Shire Council to deliver Stage 2 works,” Senator Ciccone said.
“Jemmys Point and the Kalimna circuit are very popular spots for locals and visitors to East Gippsland, and it’s great to see the community already making the most of the new facilities.
“The facilities will improve accessibility and safety for walkers and visitors to Kalimna, enhancing the overall experience.”
Lakes Entrance Action and Development Association’s (LEADA) Bruce Hurley said the upgrades played a huge role in beautifying the town.
“With the assistance of our local parliamentary members, all three tiers of government including, the attractiveness of our town to residents and visitors has been greatly enhanced by the completion of recent infrastructure projects such as improvements to the esplanade and boardwalk, the slipway and Bullock Island,” he said.
“Thanks to the Lakes Entrance community for its strong support of LEADA. “This is essential for LEADA’s advocacy role.
“The Lonely Planet no longer refers to Lakes Entrance as it did in 2017 as a tired looking town in a beautiful setting.
“I’m sure many will benefit from the improvements that you all can see here on Jemmys Point and Rotary Park.
“And if you have the mobility and haven’t already done so I urge you to walk the Kalimna loop. It has sections along side the lake through remanent rainforests and magnificent views of the town, the Entrance and the Gippsland Lakes. When I do the walk it leaves me with the feeling of how lucky I am living in Lakes Entrance.”
