Brisbane organist Christopher Trikilis, in another return concert to Bairnsdale on Sunday, September 15, will present a wonderful program of organ music written in a variety of styles.
This popular organist has charmed and inspired numerous audience members over the last few years and Pipe Organ Music East Gippsland (POMEG) is delighted that he is coming for another performance next Sunday.
As usual Chris’s program is chosen to give every member of his audience something special and to demonstrate Bairnsdale’s fine pipe organ’s capabilities.
The first half of the program features German organists and composers Johann Walther and the ever popular Johann Sebastian Bach. The two were close in a few ways – they were of similar age, had the same friends, mutual supporters and were second cousins. Bach’s music will include one his most familiar works and one of the grandest.
Other gems intersperse and enhance the music of the two German masters.
After interval the French take over. Organist/composer Theodore Dubois started his career at the Paris Conservatoire and moved to Rome after winning the prestigious ‘Prix de Rome’ . He knew Faure, Franck and Saint-Saens, who all admired his melodic and classic style, and he met Franz Liszt in Rome.
Following an interesting Australian inclusion, Chris will end his performance with a favourite of the organ repertoire. Dubois’s compatriot, Leon Boellmann wrote the Gothic Suite (Suite Gothique op 25) in the latter part of the nineteenth century and it has been admired and enjoyed by audiences, including our Bairnsdale audience, ever since.
This splendid concert is this Sunday, September 15, 1.30pm at Bairnsdale Uniting Church, corner of Great Alpine Road and Lanes Road, Lucknow. Pay at the door.
Tea and coffee will be available during interval. For school students the concert is free.
Please not the earlier than usual starting time of 1.30pm.
