Shooting Australia this week announced an eight athlete strong team which includes Lakes Entrance shooter Renae Jones to represent Australia at the September ISSF Junior World Championships to be held in Lima, Peru.
It will be Jones’ final Junior World Championships before graduating to the senior ranks.
While overseas she will also compete in the USA National Championships, an incredible opportunity to adjust to the timezone and compete in world class competition in preparation for the World Championships.
The Australian athletes will compete in pistol, rifle and shotgun disciplines between September 26 and October 7.
Leading the team into the 2024 Junior World Championships, Shooting Australia’s Performance Pathways Manager, Aurelie Gibson, expects some solid performances with the strong representation.
“This year we will have strong representation across pistol, rifle and shotgun events, with new and returning athletes on the Australian team,” Gibson said.
To be eligible for selection to this year’s team, the athletes were required to not only finish at the top of the selection leaderboard, but also secure a pre-determined average performance score throughout the set performance window.
“Our junior athletes have participated in a robust domestic competition selection campaign for the Junior World Championships. They have also competed in the Paris 2024 Olympic nomination events, with some athletes’ performances securing their selection to the international nomination event component, competing alongside not only the Australian Olympic Team, but the world’s best,” Gibson said.
The team will depart Australia on the September 21.
