Lakes Entrance’s busy Myer Street is undergoing a major transformation as East Gippsland Shire Council roll out safety and accessibility improvements.
“This project will help improve traffic and pedestrian safety by improving intersecting roads and service roads, and informal traffic movements between the service roads and Myer Street grassed medians,” council said in a statement.
“The proposed improvements will also address parking issues around Lakes Entrance Primary School and the shortage of pedestrian connections along Myer Street.”
The works include improved school crossings, new footpaths, widened existing footpaths and improved traffic flow. The upgrades will also include raised asphalt platforms and better drainage.
There will also be new access points for the service road near the primary school. The Church Street crossing will be upgraded, boosting the safety of pedestrians, especially schoolchildren.
The project is expected to be completed before the Christmas holidays.
