Have you wanted to join a club or organisation but are just not sure what is on offer or how to go about joining?
A community expo happening in Lakes Entrance will solve all your queries and most likely amaze you how many are out there on offer.
This is a not-for-profit event brought to you by the Lions Club of Gippsland Lakes Lionesses which will bring together local services, clubs, groups and community members for a day of discovery and fun.
The expo will be held on Sunday, October 6, from 10am to 2pm, at the Mechanics Hall and the club is thrilled with the interest shown by all the organisations of Lakes Entrance and surrounding areas.
The carpark adjacent to the Mechanics Hall will be closed off and the Lakes Entrance CFA fire truck, the Toorloo Arm CFA community bus, the East Gippsland mobile visitor information van, the Lions Club barbecue trailer will have a free sausage sizzle and a few other groups will be set up outside.
Others will be set up inside to show the public what each club/group is all about, along with a Devonshire Tea provided by the Lionesses.
“Our aim is to show the community what is available to them in our town,” president of Gippsland Lakes Lionesses, Maria Armistead, said.
“We have had a lot of positive feedback with approximately 45 clubs/groups participating. We aim to attract a lot of attention, and with that, our hope is that organisations gain new members/volunteers,” she said.
Those participating so far with the hope of more are: Lions Club of Gippsland Lakes Lionesses, Lakes Entrance Lions Club, LE Golf Club, Fishing Club of Gippsland Lakes, LE Football Netball Club, LE Bowls Club, LE Keenagers Table Tennis, LE Tennis/Pickleball Club, LE Croquet Club, LE Cricket Club, LE Basketball Club, LE U3A, LE Probus Club, LE Senior Citizens Club, Rotary Club of LE, Lakes Entrance Action and Development Association, LE Ambulance Auxiliary, LTB Angling Club, Toorloo Arm Fire Brigade, LE Fire Brigade, LE Rock and Roll Group, Masonic Lodge of LE, GEM (Gippsland Engaged Mentoring), Friends of Nyerimilang Homestead, Friends of Gippsland Lakes Parks and Reserves, FLOAT, East Gippsland Neighbourhood Watch and EG Police Seniors Register.
