Lakes Entrance Football Netball Club will be represented by four teams in this weekend’s East Gippsland Football Netball League semi finals.
The Seagulls’ thirds footballers will be gunning for a spot in the grand final when they meet Lindenow in the qualifying semi final this Saturday at Bairnsdale City Oval, as will the minor premiership-winning under 17 netballers who take on Boisdale Briagolong.
On Sunday the “B” and “D” grade netballers will be fighting for their finals survival in elimination semi finals against Lucknow, the winners advancing to the preliminary finals.
The thirds will be in for a tough task against the Cats, having gone down twice during the home and away season by 33 points in round six and 56 points in round 13.
The Seagulls will be leaning on the senior experience of George Ioakim, Kurt Grabham, Max Stevens and Caleb O’Donnell, while Gippsland Power ruckman Matthew Pearce could add another element to the Seagulls’ game plan if available for selection.
The under 17 netballers will be keen to follow their round 12 form against the Bombers where they accounted for the finals combatant by 10 goals. Boisdale Briagolong won the earlier home and away match quite comfortably, however the Seagulls have shown their true potential over the final six weeks of the season and are eager to attack for premiership glory.
Lakes’ “B” graders have split their two encounters with Lucknow this season, however overpowered the Magpies in their most recent meeting by 13 goals. Recent form would suggest the Seagulls should advance to a prelim.
The “D” grade Seagulls have beaten Lucknow twice through the home and away season and will be confident of taking a step into the prelim. Lucknow can’t be counted out but it is Lakes’ to lose, having recently beaten the Magpies by nine goals.
