Lakes Entrance’s Alexis Smart recently won gold with her West Gippsland Hockey Association under 18s girls teammates at the Hockey Junior Country Championships in Melbourne.
The annual Junior Country Championships took place in Melbourne and brought together top country league hockey talents from across the state.
Forty-eight teams in the under 14, 16, and 18 boys’ and girls’ divisions competed in the round-robin tournament across three venues.
West Gippsland Hockey Association remained undefeated in the pool matches, solidifying their position in the under 18s girls final, where they defeated Hockey Ballarat 5-1 to win a third consecutive gold at the Junior Country Championships.
Last year Alexis represented Gippsland Bulls at the under 16 Girls Junior State Championships, competed in Perth at the International Youth Cup and was accepted into the Gippsland Sports Academy for hockey.
