Former Lakes Entrance Secondary College captain Lachlan Chester was part of a silver medal-winning Victorian under 23 volleyball team at the national championships in Adelaide last weekend.
Chester, 21, was among Victoria’s best players as the squad defeated South Australia, Australian Capital Territory, Tasmania and Western Australia to qualify for the decider.
In the final the Victorians were competitive in each set but lost to the undefeated New South Wales team in straight sets.
Chester is currently studying paramedicine at Monash University but returns to the region each summer to work as a professional lifeguard on beaches across Gippsland and volunteer for Surf Lifesaving Lakes Entrance.
He played his junior volley-ball in Bairnsdale and received additional training from the Gippsland Sports Academy.
