Lakes Entrance’s under 17 netballers moved to the top of the ladder after beating Boisdale Briagolong in a top of the table clash in round 12 of the East Gippsland Football Netball League last Saturday.
The young Seagulls made the trip to Boisdale confident they could knock off the ladder leader and that was just the case.
It was a competitive clash, as you would expect when the two best sides in the competition go head-to-head.
But with some seamless transitions throughout the court, showcasing teamwork and the belief and confidence the Seagulls have in each other, they were quickly in front and making the running.
With the defence relentless in making crucial intercepts in the second half, while putting pressure on the Bomber shooters, the lead continued to build.
The shooters found momentum in final term as the lead blew out beyond double figures, the Seagulls eventually getting home by 10, 39-29.
Makayla Grabham and Lucy Carroll were standouts for the Seagulls in their best win of the season.
It was a disappointing result for Lakes in the under 15s as they strived for their first win against the Bombers, whose only win for the season was in the round four over the Seagulls.
Lakes came out strong early, but the Bombers had all the answers, despite Tayah Alsop creating plenty of turnovers playing in the centre.
In cold conditions both teams fumbled in the second half, but it was Boisdale’s shooters who capitalised, the lead out to 10 by half time.
The Seagulls lifted in the second half with Alsop getting great support from Alyssa Witham and Lily Jakins while Tully McLeod worked hard at goal defence.
Lakes managed to narrow the margin to seven, but that is as close as it got, eventually succumbing by eight goals, 28-20.
Alsop and Witham were named best players for the Seagulls.
