Bairnsdale Police are investigating an incident that occurred on the Mitchell River Bridge, Bairnsdale, at approximately 4.30pm on Monday July 8, where a male has thrown a rock off the bridge onto a vehicle passing underneath on Paynesville Road.
The victim’s vehicle was damaged but luckily nobody was hurt in the incident, with Police appealing for anyone that may have witnessed the incident or have dashcam footage of the area around that time.
The East Gippsland Shire Council invite members of the public to celebrate the upgrade of three projects at Bairnsdale City Oval on Thursday night from 5pm.
The upgrades include:
1. Peppercorn Park lighting upgrade
2. Peppercorn Park Oval change rooms and oval upgrade
3. Lochiel Park, Orbost lighting upgrade
The night will include a speech from mayor Cr Tom Crook and special dignitaries.
Creative youngsters in East Gippsland are encouraged to make submissions for the 2024 Youth Art Prize.

The State Government plans to introduce a new standardised four-stream household waste and recycling system statewide.
The system aims to help residents easily sort materials at home and minimise contamination of recyclables such as glass.
To make this happen, regulations, service standards and a Regulatory Impact Statement will be introduced under Recycling Victoria.
The mandatory start date for
the four service streams (general rubbish, mixed recycling, glass recycling, and food/garden organics) has yet to be determined.
The East Gippsland Shire Council, in partnership with the Municipal Association of Victoria (MAV) is delivering an information session for the community and prospective candidates for the 2024 Local Council Election.
The session will take place on Wednesday, July 24, at the Forge Theatre and Arts Hub from 6.30-8.30pm.

The East Gippsland Shire Council, 2024-25 Budget capital works program for the Bairnsdale district features several major projects.
Highlights include
– The continuation of the WORLD Sporting Precinct build.
– The final stage of the Moroney Street upgrade, aimed at enhancing intersection safety and improving drainage, will also be completed.
The following projects will be undertaken
– Jones Bay Water Sensitive Urban Design
– Bairnsdale Aerodrome, Rehabilitation of Taxiway
– Bairnsdale Airport Air Ambulance Facility
– Bairnsdale Resource Recovery Centre Development
These initiatives are part of our comprehensive $91.3 million capital works program detailed in the 2024/25 Budget, adopted by council on June 25.
The budget includes $36 million in state and federal grants supporting various projects across the shire to meet the region’s growing popula-tion and community needs.
Chris Mongta’s Ngarigo Platypus Shield is one of a number of items currently on display at the East Gippsland Art Gallery.
The boarder is the pebbles and rocks from under where it lives, where the journey flows through the grain of the timber into each deep pool it swims throughout the mountains.
Chris Mongta is a Yuin, Monero, Gunnai Kurnai man from Cann River in far East Gippsland.
The piece is part of the South East Now 2024 exhibition which features to July 27.
It also features works from Leann J. Edwards, Alfie Hudson, Alice-Ann Pepper, Ronald Edwards-Pepper, Chris Mongta, Patricia Pittman, Alan Solomon and Ray Thomas.
