So much is happening at the Lakes Entrance History Centre the newly-elected committee barely knows where to start.
In addition to the ongoing collecting, cataloguing and other regular activities, the group is currently planning a community coffee/chat session on Tuesday, October 8, during Seniors Week – straight after manning a stall at the Lions’ Volunteer Expo at the Mechanics Hall the preceding Sunday.
Over Melbourne Cup Weekend, a book sale will be held at the history centre on Sunday morning to help raise urgently needed funds. Donations of books in good order will be gratefully received. Customers are needed too, so head along, browse and buy.
There will be no wind-down as the end of year approaches. Come December, it’ll be all hands on deck with final preparations for a fantastic exhibition A Journey of No Return: Shipwrecks on the East Gippsland Coast at the Coast Guard building on the Esplanade during January.
With all this on its plate, the new committee headed to the Off The Wharf café for lunch.
New volunteers are always welcome and with such a variety of activities there is something to interest everyone. The History Centre at 4 Marine Parade is open Tuesday mornings and Saturday afternoons, or go to the Lakes Entrance Regional Historical Society website or Facebook and leave a message.
The Historical Society committee for 2024/25 comprises president Anne Macarthur, vice president Joy Wilmshurst, secretary Judy Davies and treasurer Gary Burnett, backed up by Jenny Mays, Toni Munday, Andrea Court, Marion Holding and Marie Fish.
