A generous crowd braved the cold on Friday, August 2, to celebrate the opening of two new exhibitions at East Gippsland Art Gallery.
The gallery celebrated the opening of Industrial Explorations by the group Fusion Fibre Arts Network and Areka Brown’s linocut prints with Oneironaut.
Areka Brown is a printmaker from Ballarat and is inspired by the Surrealist Movement and the stories of Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung.
Areka’s artworks explore the subconscious mind and often draws inspiration from dreams.
Oneironaut is a term used to describe a person who can travel within a dream on a conscious basis and is derived from the Greek words dream (oneiros) and sailor (nautes).
Fusion Fibre Arts members explore many themes within the title of the Industrial Explorations, some of which may not be initially obvious to the viewer.
The talented group of local textile artists have incorporated thread, paper, clay metal and many more unusual materials in their interpretations.
The exhibition was opened by Glenys Mann, chief executive officer of Fibre Arts Australia.
Both exhibitions are on until September 7, 2024.
