Fusion Fibre Arts Network opens with Industrial Explorations and in the Sideshow and Vault Gallery spaces is Areka Brown with an exhibition of linocut prints, titled Oneironaut.
Fusion Fibre Arts Network is a creative textile and fibre art network, established in East Gippsland in October 2008.
The network aims to provide members with the opportunity to participate in exhibitions, demonstrations and workshops, or any other activity designed to instruct or promote textile fibre art.
The current exhibition, Industrial Explorations, allowed Fusion Fibre Arts members to explore many themes within the title, some of which may not be initially obvious to the viewer.
This talented group of local textile artists have incorporated a wide variety of materials and techniques in their individual interpretations of the theme.
Fusion Fibre Arts Network members will be working in the gallery on Thursdays and Fridays 11am – 2pm during the exhibition so drop in and meet some of these local artists.
Areka Brown, Oneironaut.
Areka is a printmaker from Ballarat.
Inspired by the Surrealist Movement and the theories of Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung, Areka’s artworks explore the subconscious mind and often draw inspiration from dreams.
Oneironaut is a term used to describe a person who can travel within a dream on a conscious basis, and is derived from the Greek words for dream (oneiros) and sailor (nautes).
These artworks represent an incomplete self-portrait of the artist’s subconscious mind.
