Following a successful grand opening in February and an equally well-attended open day in April, the Brass Fox Pole and Dance Studio, owned by Gem Sady and Mikkayla Dent, is set to welcome the community once again for their second open day this Saturday.
This event promises an excellent opportunity for individuals to explore the benefits of pole fitness and acquire essential self-defence skills, all while staying active during the winter season.
The open day kicks off at 11am with a Women’s Self-Defence Class led by Steve Andrews from Bairnsdale MMA. Cash donations to the MMA team are welcome. Following this, attendees can enjoy a pole tricks/dance session at noon, and another session at 12.45pm, offering a fun and dynamic way to stay active.
Co-owner Gem Sady expressed her excitement for the upcoming event.
“When we ran the last open day, it was during the school holidays, so a lot of people who were wanting to have a try missed out because they were away. So, this is their chance to come in and see what we’re about,” she said.
Gem also highlighted the unique advantages of pole fitness during the colder months.
“During the winter, it’s cold and rainy, the days are short, you get home and it’s dark — it can be hard to stay motivated to exercise. Pole fitness is a great alternative. It’s indoors, you are warm, dry, and safe, and you can do it with your friends,” she said.
“I always like to say, get moving — it doesn’t matter what you do, as long as you’re active, you’re lapping everyone on the couch.”
Pole fitness is an engaging activity that combines strength training, flexibility and cardiovascular exercise in a fun and dynamic way. It enhances core strength, improves flexibility and boosts overall physical fitness. Mentally, it fosters confidence, reduces stress and promotes a sense of accomplishment as participants master new moves and routines.
In addition to promoting physical fitness, the Brass Fox is dedicated to empowering women with the knowledge and skills to protect themselves.
Gem emphasised the importance of self-defence.
“We care about the sisterhood, we are here for all women, and we want them to be safe, confident and comfortable as they go about living their lives,” she said.
“We’re about that. So, we are super keen for as many people as possible to attend Steve’s self-defence class.”
Steve Andrews, the founder, and head coach of Bairnsdale MMA, brings more than 20 years of experience in various combat sports disciplines. His self-defence class aims to equip women with practical techniques to enhance their safety and self-assurance.
The Brass Fox Pole and Dance Studio open day is more than just an introduction to pole fitness; it’s an invitation to join a supportive community, learn new skills and stay active during the winter months.
Whether you’re looking to try pole fitness for the first time, improve your strength and flexibility, or gain valuable self-defence skills, this event has something for everyone. Held at 5/66 Whiters Street, Lakes Entrance, the open day promises to be a fantastic opportunity to embrace a more active and empowered lifestyle this winter.
