Rebecca Brown took over the Trading Post six years ago and believes she only got two good years in before there was a downturn.
Rebecca thinks the internet has done the most damage to a business such as hers.
“There are so many avenues over the internet to sell second hand goods these days, sites like Ebay, Buy Swap and Sell, Facebook etc, made it hard for us,” she said.
Relying on not only local trade, but tourists as well, Rebecca noticed that when the bypass through Bruthen was established there was a drop off in numbers.
“Then there were the fires and now COVID,” she said.
“The COVID thing has been a huge factor in my decision to close down and because I wasn’t earning enough through the shop I found I wasn’t eligible for grants. I think you will find a lot of Lakes businesses in general have missed out.
