Facelift nearing completion

The Lakes Entrance Aquadome facelift, which began in April, is on track to be completed by June 8.

East Gippsland Shire Council has taken the opportunity to upgrade the 24-year-old facility with a range of works planned to improve the amenity and useability for all patrons.

Council’s acting director development, Aaron Hollow, said multiple projects are being undertaken across the aquatic area including works to fit new roofing, which is now complete.

“Two new spas have been installed with new handrails still to come, the new flooring in the pool concourse is underway, new seating is almost complete and bright picture displays are being installed shortly,” Mr Hollow said.

Repainting of the pool hall is 80 per cent complete, and changeroom improvements (including dividers between all showers) and carpark improvements are in progress. Council has been able to mainly use local contractors and in-house staff for the refurbishment.

The health club, fitness classes, creche, reception and café have remained open during the works and children’s programs such as Mighty Kids (Monday at 4pm, children aged 4–8 years) and Mighty Tots (Wednesday at 10.30am, children aged 2–4 years) continue.

“Swimming lessons are expected to resume by Tuesday, June 11, for a three-week term and information will be sent out to participants next week,” Mr Hollow said.

“The Aquadome will be offering an intensive two-week holiday program during the July school holidays. Any students previously enrolled in term one can enrol in the holiday program and receive 20 per cent off the price.”

All Lakes Entrance Aquadome wet/aquatic memberships have been suspended during the closure and members on term-based contracts have had their expiry date extended. Those on direct debit will pay a reduced prorata amount on the debit before and after the closure.

All Aquadome wet/aquatic members have been able to utilise their membership at the Bairnsdale Aquatic and Recreation Centre at no cost during the closure.

Gold and off-peak memberships have been reduced in price for the six weeks.

For more information visit the Lakes Entrance Aquadome page on council’s website, which includes all partial closure details and frequently asked questions.
