Following a series of community drop-in sessions held on Bullock Island from May to July, the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) and East Gippsland Shire Council developed a revised plan for works to upgrade the south west corner of the island.
These works have now been completed and include installation of traffic control and parking signage, clearly defined parking areas to protect infrastructure, realignment of timber bollards to provide safer pedestrian pathways along the water’s edge, grading to repair potholes in the south west corner, installation of picnic tables to enhance the amenity of the area.
“The input from the community throughout the process has been invaluable, and we arrive here today with a result that reflects the wishes of the community and which addresses safety concerns and asset protection needs,” DELWP acting regional manager land and built environment, Pat Lambert, said.
“This is a popular spot for residents and tourists alike and with the recent works now complete, Bullock Island can again be freely enjoyed by all who visit.
“Together with the East Gippsland Shire Council and Gippsland Ports, we are working to secure funding for the next stage of works as part of the Bullock Island Master Plan.”
