Dargo was the destination of the Maffra Angling Club recently for the official opening of the Victorian trout season.
With the weather magnificent, plenty of space on the river and the fish biting, the anglers were in heaven.
Things changed mid weekend, with rain arriving and causing a sharp rise in the river, which made fishing quite challenging on Sunday, with only one fish landed.
There were 28 anglers entered for the weekend, with 17 trout and one bass measured for the competition.
Ray Larsen caught the biggest trout in the men’s section, a 40 centimetre specimen, matched by Laura Jay in the ladies section.
Despite the less than ideal finish to the trip, all anglers had a great time and will do it all again next year.
