The Lakes Entrance Lions Club have had a busy month with two big successes recently being the Lions Skin Check Awareness Van in town and the Wall to Wall Memorial Ride.
The van was in Lakes Entrance for a weekend and over the two days the volunteers screened 147 people checking for skin cancers. Of those screened 43 people received referrals for further examinations.
The van was parked in a prominent and highly visible location promoting the Lions brand. Although the booking sheets were full weeks before the arrival, due to the vans location many walk ups were squeezed in.
The Lions Club thanked the three highly qualified volunteer ‘Dermoscopists’ Deb, James and Eric who gave freely of their time. They also acknowledged two Lions members, Brigid and Georgina, who controlled the reception desk and to the Gippsland Lakes Lionesses members who provided catering during the days.
The Lions also coordinated the Wall to Wall lunch stop at the Recreation Hall recently where, along with Gippsland Lakes Lionesses and the Men’s Shed, they were kept busy serving 210 lunches to the riders and passengers.
The riders paid a small fee for their lunch which, after expenses were taken out, allowed the Lions Club to make a donation of $2,000 to the Victorian Police Legacy.
The small group of volunteers at the club should be proud of their efforts. Anyone interested in joining this happy and friendly organisation would be made very welcome.
