Members of the 13th Gippsland Lighthorse joined forces with the Friends of Nyerimilang on Sunday, August 16, to carry out essential restoration work on the heritage stockyards at Nyerimilang Heritage Park.
Volunteers tackled a range of maintenance tasks across the grounds, replacing worn timbers and realigning leaning posts and gates. The upgrades ensure the historical enclosure remains a safe and accessible space for horses and riders during upcoming community events.
The hardworking crew enjoyed a shared lunch during the working bee, followed by an informative talk from Marion Dawson on the rich history of the Nyerimilang estate.
The restored stockyards will get their first major workout at the upcoming Bygone Days event, scheduled for Sunday, September 27.
Antique dealer Trevor Hancock will also be doing appraisals of your treasures from 10am-1pm in the historic rotunda. Trevor will talk about your pieces and give some guidance as to their history and possible value.
The 13th Gippsland Lighthorse will play a central role in the festivities, holding a formal parade at 11am. Visitors will also have the opportunity to meet the riders, interact with the horses, and view the freshly restored stockyards throughout the day.
