Sale Swimming Club members Mackenzie Gibbs, Molly Dettbarn and Arki Vardy represented their club at the Victorian Short Course Open Championships in Melbourne last weekend.
The event gave the local athletes the opportunity to race alongside top national talent and meet Australian Olympian and Commonwealth Games gold medalist Sam Williamson.
Gibbs delivered an outstanding campaign following a heavy workload at the State Age Championships the previous week. She secured gold and silver medals, set new personal bests, broke a Victorian Open record, and earned a qualifying time for the upcoming Australian Short Course Championships in Sydney.
Vardy competed in three events — the 50m butterfly, 100m butterfly and 100m freestyle. He recorded a personal best time in the 100m butterfly, shaving 1.24 seconds off his previous
mark to finish in 58.71 seconds.
Club captain Dettbarn gained valuable open-level experience competing in the 50m breaststroke.
Sale Swimming Club extended its thanks to head coach Steve for his support throughout the meet, as well as the families and supporters who made the trip to Melbourne to cheer on
the team.
