Staff at Lakes Riviera Amcal Pharmacy on Myer Street brought a splash of yellow to the store to spark meaningful conversations for National R U OK? Day. (PS)

Staff at Lakes Riviera Amcal Pharmacy brought a splash of color and an important message to Myer Street last Thursday, September 10, decking out the store in yellow streamers and balloons to mark National

R U OK? Day.

Team members dressed in yellow to help spark meaningful conversations, raise local awareness, and encourage customers to check in with one another, highlighting the core message that simple conversations can save lives.

R U OK? Day is a national initiative aimed at inspiring and empowering people to connect meaningfully with those around them and reach out to anyone in their world who may be struggling with life’s challenges.

Organisers emphasised that community members do not need to be experts to make a difference — being a good friend and an attentive listener is often the most important first step.

The national campaign highlights four key steps to help guide life-changing conversations:

– Ask R U OK?: Start a relaxed, friendly conversation and ask how the person

is going.

– Listen: Listen with an open mind, without judgment or rushing to give advice.

– Encourage action: Help the person think about next steps, support options, or positive actions they can take.

– Check in: Follow up down the track to show ongoing care and support.
