Eight Lakes Entrance Girl Guides travelled to Orbost recently to join 16 of the local Guides there for a fun-filled sleepover at the Orbost Guide Hall.
Arriving at 11.30am on Saturday, the girls soon got busy with activities designed to help everyone get to know each other. They made posters for the three patrols, created friendship garlands and had fun making squishies.
After lunch, the group headed into town for a walk and a visit to the sensory garden before returning to the hall for dinner.
Then it was time for the dance party. The girls learned the moves to the Hokey Pokey, Macarena and Nutbush, with plenty of laughter and some very enthusiastic dancing.
When bedtime arrived, about half the girls headed outside to sleep in small two-person tents in the hall grounds, while the others settled down inside the hall. Of course, whether everyone actually got much sleep is another story.
After breakfast and packing up on Sunday morning, the girls made the most of their final few hours together with a walk down to the Snowy River, where some enjoyed having a paddle.
The weekend was a wonderful opportunity for the Lakes Entrance and Orbost Guides to spend time together, with lots of new friendships made along the way.
It seems the weekend was a definite success, with Lakes Entrance Guide Mahlee asking on the journey home, “When can we do it again?”
The Guides are hoping it won’t be too long before they catch up again, with plans to meet at the Region Camp to be held at Camp Coolamatong in November.
A big thank you to the Orbost Guides for welcoming the Lakes Entrance girls and helping make it such a memorable weekend.
