The Rotary Club of Mitchell River has pledged $5000 to a national fundraising appeal supporting communities in Nepal following catastrophic flooding across the South Asian nation.
The recent torrential rains and flash flooding have left thousands of Nepalese families without shelter, basic possessions, or livelihoods, while widespread destruction of local water and sanitation infrastructure has raised severe public health concerns regarding waterborne disease outbreaks.
At its recent board meeting, the Mitchell River club voted unanimously to commit $5000 in immediate financial aid, while launching a local drive to rally additional donations from the East Gippsland community.
Financial aid collected through the appeal will be managed and deployed by Rotary Australia World Community Service (RAWCS). The organisation is coordinating on-ground recovery efforts alongside existing Nepalese Rotary partners and humanitarian networks.
Established in 1987, RAWCS coordinates overseas humanitarian assistance, disaster relief and community development projects. The organisation’s initial project involved restoring an orphanage in Indonesia, and it has since expanded to manage hospital reconstruction, agricultural development, medical supply distribution, and clean water infrastructure across developing nations.
Local organisers confirmed that all donations made to the Nepal Flood Appeal through the official RAWCS web portal are fully tax-deductible.
Community members wishing to contribute to the relief effort can make online donations directly via the Rotary Australia World Community Service website.
