Lakes Entrance’s thirds footballers have etched their names into East Gippsland Football Netball League history, securing back-to-back premierships with a hard-fought 23-point victory over Lindenow at Bairnsdale City Oval on Saturday.
Entering grand final day as minor premiers, the Seagulls set the tempo early with a dominant four-goal-to-one opening term.
Despite a fierce late surge from the Cats, Lakes Entrance maintained composure across the ground to seal the flag. Seagulls star Harper Davis was awarded the best-on-ground medal following an outstanding individual display in a winning team effort.
It was a bittersweet day for the club, however, as the Lakes Entrance reserves fell just short of an upset in their decider against Boisdale Briagolong.
Facing a Bombers side that had restricted them to a single goal in the semi final just fortnight earlier, the Seagulls produced a sterling turnaround.
Lakes Entrance booted two early goals to stay right in the hunt before Boisdale Briagolong pulled away in the second quarter and held off a fast-finishing Seagulls outfit to claim a 16-point win.
