Lakes Entrance Primary School has celebrated another successful Book Week, capping off a week of literary activities with a colourful character parade along the town’s iconic foreshore.
Held annually across Australia during August, Book Week aims to inspire young readers and foster a lifelong love of books. This year’s national theme, Symphony of Stories, was embraced across all year levels throughout the school.
Students from the onsite kindergarten, foundation and grades one through six engaged in dedicated literacy activities across the week, including author studies, book reviews, and interactive reading circles.
The celebrations culminated on Friday with the traditional dress-up parade, where students transformed into their favourite book characters before stepping out onto the Esplanade.
Lakes Entrance Primary School literacy leader Lucinda Jakobi described the foreshore procession as an unforgettable experience for both the school and the wider community.
“It was a glorious morning, and students partook in multiple read-alouds stationed along the iconic front lake,” Ms Jakobi said.
“Staff, including principal Simon Prior, office management and education support staff, read a range of CBCA picture story texts shortlisted from this year’s collection to eager students.”
The lakeside reading stations attracted plenty of encouragement from passing locals and visitors along the Esplanade.
“Encouragement by the local community and grateful onlookers created a magical experience,” Ms Jakobi said.
“It was a joyous sight to behold by all and an amazing energy, and we are eagerly anticipating next year’s parade.”
