Lakes Entrance Football Netball Club has locked in its football head coaching structure for 2027, headlined by former AFL player Mitch Banner taking the reins of the senior side.
Banner, a standout performer and favourite for the Seagulls’ 2026 best and fairest award, steps into the senior coaching role as the club prepares for its next chapter.
He takes over from Darren Martin, who has decided to step back after leading the senior football program for the past two seasons. The Seagulls hierarchy expressed deep gratitude for Martin’s commitment, leadership and significant contribution to the club. Martin will remain heavily involved at Lakes Entrance, continuing to play a proactive role within the football department next year.
The announcement comes during a massive grand final week for the club’s lower grades at Bairnsdale City Oval.
Finn Somerville will once again take the reins of the thirds side in 2027, continuing his strong development work with the club’s younger footballers. Somerville’s team will be chasing back-to-back premierships this weekend when they clash with Lindenow in the decider.
Ben Rotheram is also returning as reserves coach for 2027, leading a side that will take on Boisdale Briagolong in their own grand final clash this week.
Lakes Entrance leadership stated the club is thrilled to welcome Banner into the senior position and looks forward to working alongside him as they build towards the 2027 season.
