The Friends of Nyerimilang recently requested the13th Gippsland Light Horse to survey the holding yards at Nyerimilang Park.
The yards have been used by the Light Horse group for years to house their horses and to equip them for the parades they do at the park.
The yards were in very poor condition, with railings, posts and gates falling apart.
Marion Dawson from Friends of Nyerimilang asked if the 13th Gippsland Light Horse could assist in making the yards safe for the horses.
Pepe from the Light Horse arranged to have members attend on Sunday, August 23, to have a working bee with the Friends of Nyerimilang to fix the yards.
Pepe approached Bunnings, and they were happy to supply the items to fix the yards, which was appreciated.
The 13th Gippsland Light Horse and the Friends of Nyerimilang worked until they finished replacing rails, posts and gates to make the yards safe and usable.
Marion Dawson arranged with Alison Horne lunch and coffee at the end of the hard day’s work.
Marion Dawson thanked everyone for the excellent job done on the yards.
Marion explained to everyone the history of the property and how it came into the hands of The Friends of Nyerimilang and how they saved the house from the brink of falling down.
Marion explained the restoration process and how it is a functional historical site that has 9000 people visit each year.
Their next function is the High Tea at the home on Sunday, September 13 from 10am-3pm.
There will be a lot to see and enjoy the great coffee and scones.
Another great function is the “Blast from the Past,” held on Sunday, September 27, 2026 from 10am-3pm.
There is plenty to see, including the 13th Gippsland Light Horse Display, blacksmithing, weaving, whip cracking, classic cars and music for entertainment and much more.
