The under 17 side flew the flag for Lakes Entrance in round 16 of East Gippsland netball against Wy Yung at Bullumwaal Road last Saturday.
They were the Seagulls’ only victorious team against the strong Tigers in a tough final-round assignment.
While the squad has not reached the heights of its 2025 premiership campaign, the new-look side was delighted to record its fifth win of the season, with Lily Eiseman, Makayla Grabham and Sadie Stevens instrumental in the 32-20 success.
The under 13 side battled hard against the unbeaten Tigers, going down 41-20 in a tough pre-finals encounter. Sadie Williams and Maddi Woodward fought hard over four quarters against the raging premiership favourite.
The under 13s are the only Seagulls netball outfit to qualify for finals action and will face Stratford this Sunday at the Bairnsdale City Oval in a must-win elimination final.
Wy Yung rounded out its finals preparation with a commanding 43-13 win in the under 15 fixture. Well-drilled throughout, the Tigers never allowed the visitors into the match. Promising youngsters Cobie Gilbert and Ruby Jakins were named among the better players for Lakes Entrance.
In “A” grade, Wy Yung kept its end of the bargain with an emphatic 77-34 victory over the Seagulls. Jesse Gillard and promising youngsters Grabham and Tayla Mills were best for Lakes Entrance.
Lakes Entrance went into “B” grade full of confidence following a hard-earned victory over arch-rival Orbost Snowy Rovers, but found the going tough against the premiership-contending Tigers, falling 52-28. Billie Moorhouse and Eve Hamer impressed for the Seagulls across all four quarters.
The Seagulls were no match for Wy Yung in “C” grade, succumbing 58-13, with Linda Lyon and Harriet Copeland battling hard.
The home side was equally ruthless in “D” grade, running out 55-9 winners, while Sam Mongan and Poppy Richardson led the rearguard effort for Lakes Entrance.
