Public interest in the proposed Berwin Zipline project drew a strong crowd to the Kalimna Hotel last weekend, with community members keen to review plans and raise questions about the major tourism initiative.
Approximately 50 people attended the Saturday afternoon community information session to receive a detailed briefing from project founder Rory Bolding and representatives from the Berwin team.
Currently in the planning and approvals phase with applications sitting before relevant government authorities, the proposed development features a one-kilometre gentle glide running from the top of Kalimna Hill, across the entrance of the Gippsland Lakes, to Bullock Island.
If approved, the dual-line attraction would offer participants a aerial perspective of the Lakes Entrance waterways and surrounding coastal landscape.
During the presentation, Mr Bolding provided updates on the project’s background, current permit status, proposed flight route, renders and site elevations. He also outlined operational details, environmental management plans, and addressed specific areas of community concern.
The formal briefing concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session, followed by informal one-on-one discussions between residents and project developers.
Organisers reported an overall positive reception from attendees, with constructive community discussions covering local business partnership opportunities, age and accessibility guidelines, estimated economic impact and long-term commercial viability.
The session also addressed practical site considerations, including traffic management, parking availability, visual impact on the skyline, and flora and fauna protections across the Kalimna Hill and Bullock Island corridors.
