Students across East Gippsland are being greeted by friendly new faces at school crossings this term as East Gippsland Shire Council welcomes new School Crossing Supervisors to key local school zones.
The fresh appointments will support busy drop-off and pick-up zones across the shire, including Toorloo Arm Primary School, Swifts Creek P-12 School, and primary schools in Bairnsdale.
A spokesperson for East Gippsland Shire Council highlighted the crucial role these dedicated team members play in protecting young families and reducing morning and afternoon traffic congestion.
“These dedicated team members play an important role in helping children, families, and the wider community cross the road safely during busy school drop-off and pick-up times,” the spokesperson said.
“School Crossing Supervisors help create a safer environment for everyone by managing traffic and ensuring pedestrians can cross with confidence.”
With increased activity around local school precincts, council is urging motorists to remain vigilant, adhere to lowered speed limits, and obey supervisor directions at all times.
“If you’re travelling through a school zone, remember to slow down, follow the directions of the School Crossing Supervisor, and stay alert for children who may be crossing the road,” the spokesperson said.
