Norm Backman and Ruth McPhee were the winners of the monthly awards last Saturday on medley stroke day at the Lakes Entrance Golf Club.
Backman finished even with the card, enough to see him win “B” grade on countback and claim the monthly medal in a competitive day of golf contested by 81 players.
McPhee led everyone home with a stellar round of two-under par, taking “D” grade, overall victory and the ladies’ nearest-the-pin.
The long-hitting Brett Stokes continued to rack up impressive scores, his even-par round seeing him victorious in “A” grade, while the in-form Apola Weel took “C” grade on countback with an even-par score.
The Lakes ladies hosted their annual Lakes Bowl on Monday, well supported by golfers from across the Golf East Gippsland region.
The winners of the coveted bowl were the local combination of Robyn Downing, Sue Wilson and Olivia Chester.
Maffra and Newry club champion Robyn Walker was victorious in the “A” grade event, Weel was again to the fore taking “B” grade, and Downing capped off a great day by taking “C” grade.
Last Tuesday, Downing was again among the winners, this time at the Young and the Rest of Us event, defeating Lori Murray on countback.
Thursday’s two-person Ambrose attracted 60 players and was won by Stokes and Kat Sharpley with a score of 61, finishing clearly ahead of runners-up Brad Hay and David Hatt (63.75).
