It was a great day for the Lakes Entrance Football Netball Club at Stratford in round 14 of the East Gippsland Football Netball League, with the Seagulls winning all three football matches.
The seconds carried on their outstanding recent form, easily accounting for the Swans by 122 points while restricting the home side to just one goal for the contest.
Noah Bottom (seven goals) and Ben Rotheram (four) were in fine touch up forward, well supported by Reginald Saunders and James Daly, who kicked two goals each. Bottom sits second on the league goalkicking tally with 79 goals, trailing Boisdale Briagolong’s Luke Pratt by five.
Brendan Bassett was on fire in the midfield, receiving strong support from Kurt Grabham, ruckman Michael Sowden, Bottom, Daly and the consistent Sam East. Lakes Entrance looks like the only realistic threat to topple reigning premier Boisdale Briagolong in the upcoming finals series.
It was also a comfortable win for the Seagulls in the thirds, victorious by 66 points after holding the Swans to just two goals for the morning.
Archer Connally and Oscar Hopkins kicked three goals each for Lakes, with Harper Davis and Cooper Lin chipping in with two apiece in an impressive team effort. Harrison Bennett, Thomas Graham, Xavier Pepper, Connally, Mason Radley and Zane Holley were all standouts for the visitors.
The Seagulls sit atop the ladder with two matches remaining in the home and away season, assured of a top-two finish and a double chance in finals.
Lakes Entrance will welcome arch-rival Orbost Snowy Rovers to Lakeside Oval this Saturday.
