As final renovations were being completed at the new Gippsland Local Medical Imaging (GLMI) clinic in Sale, builders uncovered an unexpected piece of local history hidden inside the walls: old newspapers carefully stowed away decades ago by original tradespeople.
For the GLMI team, the historical snapshot proved a fitting discovery. Just as those pages offered a look into the past, modern medical imaging provides a crucial look into the future of local health.
The purpose-built clinic officially opened its doors on July 20 alongside Inglis Street Medical Centre, bringing locally owned and independently operated imaging services to the Sale community.
Local patients now have access to state-of-the-art ultrasound, digital X-ray, and CT services on-site, with MRI services scheduled to follow.
The facility was designed to streamline local care, reducing the need for residents to travel out of town while keeping wait times to a minimum so referring doctors can obtain fast, accurate results.
To keep quality healthcare accessible, GLMI is providing bulk billing for all Pensioner Concession Card and Health Care Card holders across eligible services. Additionally, all CT scans will be bulk billed for all patients during the clinic’s first six months of operation.
“We’re incredibly excited to become part of the Sale community,” the GLMI team said.
“Our goal has always been to provide country communities with the same level of medical imaging technology and expertise available in metropolitan centres, while maintaining the personal service and care that regional patients value.”
The story of the newspapers remains a firm favourite among staff as the clinic begins serving local patients.
“The people who built these walls were leaving behind a little piece of their time,” the team added.
“We’re honoured to be writing the next chapter by providing modern healthcare that helps look after the future of our community.”
The new GLMI Sale clinic is now open and accepting referrals from all medical practitioners.
