Local recreational fishers and boaters will have the opportunity to engage directly with state fishery experts next month when the Victorian Fisheries Authority (VFA) hosts a free community forum in Lakes Entrance.
Returning for its sixth consecutive year, the annual roadshow offers anglers and their families an update on regional fishing developments, stocking updates and state boating infrastructure.
The Lakes Entrance session will be held on Thursday, August 20, from 7pm to 9pm at the Gippsland Lakes Fishing Club.
VFA chief executive officer Travis Dowling said the forums provide an ideal platform for local enthusiasts to share ideas, gain insights, and ask direct questions of fisheries staff.
“Meeting with passionate locals and hearing what matters most to them is a huge privilege for us,” Mr Dowling said.
“These forums are also a great opportunity to exchange knowledge and ask VFA staff any burning questions.”
The session will feature presentations detailing initiatives delivered under the Victorian Government’s $96 million Go Fishing and Boating plan.
Key topics include updates from the VFA’s Better Boating division regarding statewide boat ramp upgrades, alongside progress reports on native fish recovery programs targeting iconic species such as Macquarie perch and trout cod.
Mr Dowling highlighted recent milestone investments across regional waterways, including a record-breaking stocking program that has released more than 30 million fish statewide over the past three years.
He added that over $1.6 million in targeted funding has also been distributed to 330 Victorian angling clubs to support facility modernisation and membership growth.
The Lakes Entrance forum will begin with a presentation by VFA representatives, followed by an open question-and-answer session with the audience.
Attendance is free, and no prior registration is required.
