The Maffra and District Car Club recently hosted its fifth hillclimb event of the year, with the fixture also serving as a competitive round of the Victorian Club Autocross Series (VCAS).

The event drew competitors from across Victoria, who made the trek to Boisdale to test their skills on the challenging gravel surface.

The VCAS round brought a diverse fleet of vehicles to the track, ranging from rally-prepared Hyundai Excels to meticulously maintained, road-registered Datsuns. It also introduced a unique scoring format, with each driver’s fastest three runs combined to determine the final rankings, heavily rewarding consistency throughout the day.

In the junior category, Charlie Wilkin claimed victory with an outstanding combined time of 196.79 seconds. He was followed closely by Bryce McKee in a Ford Fiesta, with Cooper Miller rounding out the podium in his Ford Laser. All junior competitors earned high praise for handling the changing track conditions exceptionally well.

The ladies category saw Boisdale local Molly Grist take top honours behind the wheel of her iconic “Paddle Pop” Hyundai Excel, posting a winning combined time of 204.01 seconds. Brittany Jones finished second in 204.73 seconds, while Brianna Chandler took third just a fraction behind in 204.83 seconds.

In the standard production division, Scott Dowel secured the win with a combined time of 194.52 seconds, edging out Mark Grist in his ex-delivery Mazda 3, who finished second with a total time of 205.33 seconds.

The Maffra and District Car Club will host its next hillclimb event on Sunday, August 23.
