Mountain Bike East Gippsland is gearing up to host its highly anticipated annual Winter Enduro Race Weekend at the Mount Taylor Mountain Bike Park on August 1-2.
The weekend promises an epic lineup of action, featuring high-stakes Enduro racing on Saturday followed by a jam-packed schedule of “Funday” events on Sunday, ensuring plenty of riding and high spirits for all attendees.
Saturday’s competitive format keeps things simple: riders tackle the ascents at their own pace and race down the timed descents, with the fastest cumulative downhill time taking victory. Four diverse trails will be open for competition: Goodes Track, Not So Flow, Mountain-Time to Drop, and the Tip-Run-Downhill into Southern Cross Descent. To maximise their chances, riders can take up to five attempts per trail, with their best times counting toward the final tally.
Whether competitors are chasing podium finishes or simply seeking a great weekend on the trails, the event caters to all skill levels. Age and ability categories span from under 11, 13, 15, 17 and 19 through to open divisions, masters 40-plus, and a dedicated E-bike class.
Saturday’s program begins with rider registration from 7.30am to 8.15am, followed by a mandatory race briefing from 8.15am to 8.30am. Racing will run continuously from 8.30am to 4pm, concluding with presentations between 4.30pm and 5.30pm.
Sunday shifts the focus entirely toward entertainment, with a fancy-dress theme adopted across all events. The day features a whip-off and best trick competition judged by local mountain biking legends, a chainless race down the Southern Cross Descent, and a mixed relay race.
Sunday’s schedule commences with registration (7.45am–8.30am) and a briefing (8.30am–8.45am). The chainless race kicks off at 9.15am, followed by the relay race at 10.45am. The crowd-pleasing whip-off and best trick showdown takes place at 12.45pm, with final presentations wrapping up the weekend from 1.30pm to 2pm.
To accommodate traveling riders, free camping is available on-site at Mount Taylor across the weekend.
Organisers strongly advise safety gear for all competitors, with mandatory requirements for junior classes. For riders in the under 11 to under 17 categories, a full-face helmet, gloves and both knee and elbow guards are heavily recommended to ensure a safe weekend of racing.
