Margaret McManus produced the round of the week during Saturday’s medley stableford event at the Lakes Entrance Golf Club, claiming overall honours in emphatic style.
McManus dominated the field to win “D” grade and the overall top spot with a sensational 44 points, finishing a comfortable five points ahead of “B” grade winner Stuart Symes.
Stuart Yates put together another memorable round to secure “A” grade with 38 points, while Nickolas Adams claimed “C” grade with an identical score of 38.
Thursday’s medley two-ball aggregate stableford competition proved a popular drawcard, with Mark Evans and Dallas Riseley teaming up effectively to win the day with a combined score of 69 points. Placegetters included Ian Thomson and Barry Brand on 67, followed closely by Les Beattie and Stephen Rogers.
Midweek action on Wednesday was dominated by Lori Murray, who was an easy winner in “B” grade and overall after signing for an impressive 40 points. Norm Backman also found success mid-week, taking out “A” grade with a solid 36 points.
Tuesday’s regular events were again highly competitive and well-attended.
Brad Hay was prominent once more, claiming the “A” grade honour in the ‘Ruthless and Toothless’ competition on a countback from Craig O’Brien, with Bruce Wilmshurst finishing just a further shot back.
The “B” grade result was far more resounding, as Tony Fedat cleared out to win by five shots ahead of Don Haley and David Casey. Fedat’s outstanding round was highlighted by a brilliant display on the greens, seeing him also take home the putting award. Bill Daniel walked away with last week’s NAGA trophy.
McManus bookended a stellar week on the course right where she finished it, leading the field home in the ‘Young and the Rest of Us’ event. Ann Furphy secured the runner-up spot following a countback against Ann Daniel and Betty Martino.
