The colder weather saw numbers drop in some events at the Lakes Entrance Golf Club last week, but fields continue to hold up well given the depths of winter.
Last Tuesday’s Young and the Rest of Us session ended in a competitive finish, with Giselle Phillips continuing her great recent form to win on countback from Lori Murray after both finished on plus five.
Ian Stephens was a three-shot winner in “A” grade from Brad Hay and Stanley Short, while in “B” grade Don Haley was victorious by two shots from Darryl Brassil, who also won the putting award. Craig O’Brien didn’t go home empty-handed, claiming the NAGA award.
Wednesday’s medley stableford was won by “B” grade player Patty Smith with 38 points, finishing a shot clear of Murray, who was again in good touch around the greens. Ben John took out the “A” grade event with 36 points.
Last Thursday’s medley stableford saw 84 players hit the fairways, with “B” grade player Gary Naylor having a day out to win the overall event by four shots from Peter Nicholas. Classy left-hander Jamie Coates was the winner of “A” grade with 36 points, while Mark Evans took out “C” grade on countback from John Melrose, who has been at the pointy end of the results for several weeks now.
Another good turnout on Saturday saw 93 players contest the medley stableford, with Robert Sperring showing a return to form to claim “A” grade and overall success with a well-compiled 39 points.
Adam Elliott banked success in “B” grade with 36 points on countback from Jason Clarke and Leigh Prizibilla. Laurie Thomson was in great form, finishing with an impressive 39 points to take out “C” grade and finish runner-up on countback to Sperring. Allen Lawson got the nod in “D” grade on countback from Sam East after both carded 35 points.
