The golden era of music and retro glamour is headed to Gippsland this July, with Australia’s premier rock ‘n’ roll party show locked in for a high-octane performance at The Wedge in Sale.
Fresh from a nationwide tour, Shake Rattle ‘n’ Roll will take over the local stage on Saturday, July 11, at 7.30pm, promising a two-hour jukebox joyride back to the definitive sounds of the 1950s and 1960s.
The full-blown stage production features five powerhouse vocalists and eight elite international ballroom dancers, backed by sharp multimedia visuals and hundreds of dazzling, authentic vintage costumes.
The feel-good celebration spans a massive catalogue of era-defining hits, allowing Wellington Shire audiences to sing along to the music of Elvis Presley, Bobby Darin, Sam Cooke, Frankie Valli, Buddy Holly, Connie Francis, and Australia’s own pioneer of rock, Johnny O’Keefe, alongside a dedicated tribute to the iconic sounds of Grease.
Billing itself as an ultimate, multi-generational family experience suitable for all ages, organisers are encouraging theatregoers to lean into the theme by dusting off their blue suede shoes and dressing up in their finest mid-century vintage threads.
The traveling production arrives in Sale with major metropolitan critical backing. Reviewers have praised the show as an “eye and ear thrilling” experience, with Melbourne arts writers labelling it a “cavalcade of song, movement and colour” that uses nostalgic 1950s television advertisements to anchor its slick staging.
Management at The Wedge has advised patrons that the performance will utilise theatrical smoke and haze effects throughout the evening.
