Magnificent winter weather continues to drive outstanding field numbers across all events hosted by the Lakes Entrance Golf Club.

Saturday’s four-ball best-ball (4BBB) medley stableford attracted a stellar field of 94 players. Bairnsdale members Kaye Wyndham and Nickolas Adams teamed up beautifully to claim victory with an impressive score of 49 points.

The duo finished three points clear of runners-up Les Rogers and Alan Taylor, who secured second place on a countback from the in-form John Melrose and Brad Hay.

Melrose has been the undeniable standout player of the week, kickstarting a brilliant run of form earlier in the week with an “A” grade victory in the Ruthless and Toothless competition, finishing three shots clear of Ian Stephens and Ronnie Baldock.

In “B” grade action, Aland Radford was back in the winner’s circle, edging out runners-up Mark Evans and Don Haley. David Hatt proved sharpest on the greens to take home the putting award, while David Griffiths was all smiles after securing the NAGA award.

Last Wednesday’s medley stableford produced a nail-biting finish. The high-profile pairing of Renee Percival and Katrina Fearnley clinched a tight countback victory over Betty Martino and Giselle Phillips after both pairs carded a massive 49 points.

Melrose returned to centre stage on Thursday to dominate the medley stableford field. Playing off a 28 handicap, he compiled a superb 39 points to pocket both the “C” grade trophy and overall honours.

Wily veteran Steven Smith showcased excellent touch around the greens to wrap up “A” grade with 38 points, while Chris Fenner snared “B” grade with 36 points on a countback from a unlucky Garry Jeal.
