Lakes Entrance’s thirds continued their outstanding run of form, posting their sixth consecutive victory in round 10 of the East Gippsland Football Netball League against Boisdale Briagolong at the Cabbage Patch.
The Seagulls kept the Bombers goalless for the first three quarters on the way to a sensational 20-goal win.
Lakes Entrance kicked eight goals in the first quarter and 15 goals in the first half to cruise to victory, maintaining third spot on the ladder.
The Seagulls are well positioned and in ideal form to challenge Lindenow and Lucknow for a double chance and top spot after this weekend’s competition bye.
The competition’s leading goalkicker, Leroy Hayes, led the scoring with five majors, taking his season tally to 55. Oscar Hopkins and Zane Holley chipped in with three each, while Xavier Pepper and Thomas Graham finished with two apiece. Riley Jenkins, Graham, Hayes, Holley, Jordan Van Dam and Charlie Forrester all put in standout performances.
All eyes were also on the reserves fixture, where the Seagulls were given a genuine chance of knocking off the premier of the last two seasons, their only previous nemesis for 2026.
But it was not to be, with accurate goalkicking from the Bombers ultimately pushing the final margin out. After trailing by 18 points at half time, the Bombers kicked eight goals to two in the second half to run out 56-point winners.
Noah Bottom was the only multiple goalscorer for the Seagulls, with his two majors taking his season total to 59. He shares the lead in the competition goalkicking award with Boisdale Briagolong’s Luke Pratt, who was one of the stars of the contest, finishing with five goals.
Among the best for Lakes Entrance were Sam Brown, James Daly, Charlie Goold, Kurt Grabham, Rydah Davy and Baxter Bennett. Several of those players are likely to push for senior selection in the coming weeks.
The Seagulls’ next assignment will be on July 11 when they host Lindenow.
