The Lakes Entrance junior footballers made a triumphant trip to Lindenow last Sunday, with both the under 13 and under 15 sides securing vital victories during round 11 of the East Gippsland Football Association.
The under 13 squad returned to the winners’ list in style following a shock defeat seven days prior at the hands of the Bairnsdale Redlegs.
Lindenow, who desperately needed a victory to keep their finals aspirations alive, took the match right to the Seagulls at times. However, the well-drilled visitors found answers at every crucial juncture, ultimately running out 24-point winners. With three rounds remaining in the home-and-away season, Lakes Entrance remains steady in third place on the ladder, which loomed as their likely finals launching pad.
In the under 15 clash, Lakes Entrance proved too strong for the third-ranked Cats, cruising to an easy 42-point victory. It was a costly blow for Lindenow, who needed to bank the four points to keep any realistic chance of snatching a double-chance finals spot alive.
The Seagulls sit comfortably in second place on the table, trailing only Wy Yung — the sole side to have defeated them this season. While the Tigers have gotten the better of Lakes Entrance twice this year, the Seagulls will be hoping to turn the tables in a month’s time when the heavyweights are expected to clash in the qualifying final.
With the school holiday bye now in play, the Seagulls will next take the field on Sunday, July 12, at the Lakes Entrance Recreation Reserve, where they will host arch-rivals and closest neighbours, Orbost Snowy Rovers.
