The Gippsland and Latrobe Valley aquatics community has partnered with Water Polo Victoria to officially launch the sport locally with a major Gala Day at the Gippsland Regional Aquatic Centre (GRAC) in Traralgon on Saturday, July 11.
Organised by local advocate Cheryl Briggs alongside the NYP Dragons, the free event will feature “come and try” sessions for juniors and seniors. It will also include Flippaball, a modified, shallow-water version of the game tailored for younger children and families.
“GRAC is well suited to water polo, with excellent facilities able to set up a playing field to meet World Aquatics international standards,” Ms. Briggs
said.
“We plan for this event to be a stepping stone to building a local water polo community.”
Water Polo Victoria views Gippsland as a key growth area, aiming to replicate successful regional competitions running in Geelong, Ballarat, Bendigo, and Wodonga. A local presence will also establish pathways to elite competition, including the annual Australian Country Championships.
