Bairnsdale families are in for a tractor-load of circus and farming tomfoolery when the critically acclaimed production The Farmy Farm arrives at the Forge Theatre next month.
Scheduled for two performances on Thursday, 2 July at 11am and 1pm, the show promises high-flying acrobatics and plenty of laughs for audiences of all ages.
Set on the fictional ‘Legend Farms’, the production follows the chaotic daily routine of farmhands Kenny and Jenny. Organisers have described the show’s unique comedic tone as “The Castle meets Babe”, blending classic Australian larrikin humour with world-class physical theatre.
The production is a collaboration between Stunned Mullet Circus and the creative team behind the international festival hit Children Are Stinky. Directed by Malia Walsh, a founding member of Circus Trick Tease who has previously collaborated with Frank Woodley and directed for Circus Oz, The Farmy Farm arrives in East Gippsland with a string of five-star reviews from major arts festivals.
The two-person cast features highly accomplished Melbourne-based circus artists Josie Wardrope and Sam Aldham, both of whom boast extensive national and international touring credits, including seasons with Circus Oz and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
Audiences can expect a fast-paced repertoire of stunts, including jaw-dropping acrobatics performed on three-metre-high balancing towers of hay, giant juggling carrots, and aerial manoeuvres.
True to its community farm setting, the performance is highly interactive, with the main characters known to regularly call on the audience to lend a hand with the daily chores.
