Respected local Aboriginal Elder Uncle Harry Stewart was treated to a memorable afternoon of nostalgia and reflection last Tuesday after requesting a special lunch outing with long-time friends Max Curtis and Peter “Pepe” Petrovich.

Uncle Harry, who is currently residing at Opal HealthCare in Lakes Entrance and has been quite unwell, was eager to catch up with his old mates to reminisce about their shared history in the region.

The trio enjoyed a relaxed lunch at the Lakes Entrance RSL, where they spent hours pouring over a collection of vintage photographs brought along by Mr Curtis.

The afternoon was deeply meaningful for the group, as Uncle Harry shares significant foundational ties with both men. He was a founding member of the local Country Music Club alongside Mr Curtis, and also a founding member of the Bairnsdale Classic Car Club alongside Mr Petrovich.

The photos brought back decades of memories from the early days of both clubs.

Following their lunch, the friends took Uncle Harry for a scenic drive to Jemmy’s Point Lookout. The location holds a deeply sentimental place in his heart, as it was the exact spot where he used to take his late wife, Liz, every Sunday to sit together and look out over the ocean.

The visit to the lookout, combined with the walk down memory lane through the old photographs, brought back a flood of wonderful memories for the local Elder.

Uncle Harry extended his heartfelt thanks to both Max and Pepe for organising the outing and making the memorable afternoon possible.
