The CFA has replaced the motor room doors at nearly 40 fire stations across Victoria, including several key brigades in East Gippsland, as part of a state-wide infrastructure modernisation project.
The Motor Room Door Replacement Program will see a total of 55 station doors upgraded to accommodate brigade growth and next-generation emergency vehicles.
Acting head of property and environmental services Jonathan Beattie said the project is nearing completion and has been a major success.
“We have been able to ensure stations will match the demand of vehicles as brigades grow,” Mr Beattie said.
“We are always looking for ways to work into the future, and this project has been a great example of doing just that.”
The $1.5 million project, funded through the CFA Base Capital program, ensures the new clearances open high enough to accommodate future vehicle roll-outs.
Beyond vehicle compatibility, the upgrades provide a safer working environment for local volunteers. The installation of modernised, motorised doors completely eliminates the physical injury risks associated with lifting and closing older, manual bifold counterweight doors.
The infrastructure program commenced in June 2025 and is on track for completion in September this year. Following the conclusion of this rollout, all future door replacements will be scheduled to shadow new vehicle deliveries.
A number of local East Gippsland stations were selected as key beneficiaries of the funding, with upgrades taking place at Mossi-Tambo, Paynesville, Newmerella, Wairewa, Metung and Hillside.
