Unbeaten premiership favourite Lucknow was never forced out of second gear in its round nine East Gippsland netball clash against Paynesville at AJ Freeman Reserve.
Ashley Coates and Anna Lisa Short led the charge for the Magpies, steering them to an emphatic 74-14 victory, while Emily Hall and Mel Ferris battled hard for the outclassed Gulls.
Boisdale Briagolong moved into third place on the ladder at the expense of Wy Yung, but only just. The Bombers pulled off a memorable 38-37 victory at Bullumwaal Road in a classic encounter that either side could have rightfully won. Anticipation is already building for a probable elimination final showdown between the two evenly matched squads.
Another tight contest unfolded at Lochiel Park, where traditional rivals Orbost Snowy Rovers and Lakes Entrance played out a thriller. In the end, it was the home side’s potent mix of youth and experience that prevailed in a tense finish, 55-52. Kristy Herbert and Lara Seal led the way for the Blues, while Skyla White and Lucy Carroll were among the best for the Seagulls.
Meanwhile, second-placed Stratford continues to breathe down the neck of Lucknow after proving far too strong for Lindenow at Boyd Reserve, running out comfortable 67-22 winners. Ash Higgins and Tori Patterson were outstanding for the Swans, while Brooke Perrett and Renee Barry toiled manfully for the Cats.
